Better Blog Challenge Day Eleven: Survey Your Readers

by Katy on October 12, 2011

This is another fantastic tip that I picked up at a blog conference. Every now and then, it’s a good idea to survey your readership. This is a good idea for a couple of reasons. First, it gives you a chance to ask your readers what kind of content they enjoy on your blog and what they don’t enjoy (if you care). You can also use it as a chance to ask for suggestions for new content. The other good reason to survey your readers is if you are trying to get advertisers or sponsors. Being able to tell these people concretely who your readers are will really help. Are they men or women? What are their ages? Are they parents? Married? Single? These are good things to know.

Surveying your readers is really easy. You can set up a free survey on SurveyMonkey.com and then share the link on your blog. I leave my surveys open for about a week and then close them. Other bloggers have chosen to leave theirs open for a month or more–it’s really your choice.
