Weekly Notables

by Katy on May 9, 2011

Notables! There are currently thirty-eight blogs in the reader and I’m adding more all the time. In case you don’t have time to check out all thirty-eight blogs this week, here’s the best and most interesting stuff written in the last week (May 1st through 7th).

Always smart, always thoughtful, the anonymous blogger behind  NOLA Notes explores our country’s growing divide in her post America via Facebook.

Cara at Peanuts are Evil reflects on life after Katrina and the importance of helping others during natural disasters in her post Paying it Forward.

Mallory of Miss Malaprop, who usually writes more of fashion/shopping blog writes a beautiful post about self-acceptance entitled If You Don’t Love Yourself: On Drag Queens, Glee, and Self Love.

And interestingly enough, there was a great post from the blog at Upperline Financial entitled Before I Die.

If you’re the crafty/do-to-yourself type:

Christa from One Cheap Mama presents a cute idea for teacher gifts (I never remember that type of thing) in her post Teacher Appreciation Gifts.

and

Suzonne at Urban Comfort shares her collection of vintage baking tins in her aptly named post Vintage Baking Tins and Gelatin Molds and then shares ways others are using them creatively.

If you like recipes:

Andrew at Good NOLA shares a recipe Habanero Dirty Rice with Bison and Andouille that made me realize I’ve never attempted to make dirty rice before–I’ve been satisfied with the Popeye’s version up until now.

and

Lindsey over at The Nosh Pit reveals a recipe for Chicken Korma. I often get nervous about cooking “ethnic” foods (I’m not super-adventurous), but her picture looks like something I could happily eat.

Other notable bits from around the LA Blogosphere:

Baton Rouge food blogger Jay Ducote of Bite and Booze will be appearing on Master Chef June 6th at 7pm on Fox.

Crawfish Tales creator Linzy Cotaya is collecting mom-friendly reviews of stores in a new segment on her blog called “Bottle’s Up!” Tired of trying to maneuver a store that doesn’t make room for strollers?–let ‘em know with a bottle review. Love that another store has a candy free aisle so you can check out without a tantrum? Tell Linzy. I have a feeling this is going to become a very popular list.

Christy of Slow Southern Style, who I interviewed this week, has gotten a blog makeover. Go stop by and tell her the place looks gorgeous.

**I realize this list is definitely slanted towards south Louisiana. My reader is too–please let me know if you know of a good blog from the upper half of the state or better yet, encourage them to register their blog for our directory.**
